Review:

Stars: 5

I am not usually a romance reader but I just might be after this book. I loved the sweet, innocent, romantic feel this novel offered. It was pure (no language, no sex, no triggers) which was refreshing. A time piece set in England high society is the perfect solution to a romance novel. I cannot wait to read the sequel.

Questions:

Has someone ever written you a poem?

If so, did you swoon or was the talent lost on you?

At the beginning we find out that Marianne and Cecily, despite being twins, are as different as can be. Twins are suppose to be the same though...right?

When you encounter twins do you assume they are the same or similar?

Can twins be extremely close to each other and still be very different?

Grandmother told Marianne she would be her heir. Marianne would inherit money but no estate, however, with the money she could secure a match with a good family. Marianne decides to keep it a secret.

Would you have kept it a secret? Even from Cecily?

Would you have felt thankful or insulted if you were Marianne?

After reading the story, did Marianne actually benefit from keeping her inheritance a secret?

Marianne meets Phillip at an inn on her journey to Edenbrooke. He is mysterious. He will not provide a last name. He secretly funds a nurse for the coachman. He even hired a new coachman to transport her to her destination.

At this point, who did you think Phillip was?

Why does he help Marianne like this?

Did you find his actions mysterious yet sweet or did you find them controlling and creepy?

Phillip liked informal instead of formal. Very different for a gentleman of his status.

Why do you think he rejected formality and instead enjoyed to be informal with Marianne?

Do you think he was like that with everyone or just her?

The orchard was Marianne's sanctuary.

What is your sanctuary?

Do you find somewhere else to be a sanctuary when just considering spiritual things?

Mrs. Clumpett and Marianne were cursed with beautiful sisters.

Is that curse still around today among families?

How is the curse different today than it was during the time frame of the novel?

"You spend so much time thinking about other people's feelings," he [Phillip] said quietly. "I just wonder how much thought you give to your own. Is your father more deserving of happiness than you are?"

Have you ever struggled answering this same question for yourself?

Why is it so easy to accept unhappiness for ourselves so others can have happiness?

What are your thoughts on Cecily?

Do you think she is self-centered or does she care for others?

The beauty to romance is there a level of predictability. The guy gets the girl in the end. Happy endings. This is no different.

What did you find predictable?

What was surprising or unpredictable?

Not reading the sequel, what do you think becomes of Cecily and Mr. Kellet?

The story was told from Marianne's perspective.

Who else's perspective would you be interested in?
